newsticker-desc-format is a variable defined in `newst-plainview.el'.
Its value is

"%d %c"

Documentation:
Format string for news descriptions (contents).
The following printf-like specifiers can be used:
%c The contents (description) of the item.
%d The date the item was (first) retrieved. See
`newsticker-date-format'.

You can customize this variable.
