gnus-article-emulate-mime is a variable defined in `gnus-sum.el'.

Documentation:
If non-nil, use MIME emulation for uuencode and the like.
This means that Gnus will search message bodies for text that look
like uuencoded bits, yEncoded bits, and so on, and present that using
the normal Gnus MIME machinery.

You can customize this variable.

This variable was introduced, or its default value was changed, in version 22.1 of Emacs.
