Documentation:
Alist of alternative font registry names.
Each element has the form (REGISTRY ALTERNATIVE1 ALTERNATIVE2 ...).
If fonts of registry REGISTRY can be loaded, font selection
tries to find a best matching font among all fonts of registry
REGISTRY, ALTERNATIVE1, ALTERNATIVE2, and etc.

You can customize this variable.

This variable was introduced, or its default value was changed, in version 21.1 of Emacs.
