push is a Lisp macro in `subr.el'.

(push NEWELT PLACE)

Add NEWELT to the list stored in the generalized variable PLACE.
This is morally equivalent to (setf PLACE (cons NEWELT PLACE)),
except that PLACE is only evaluated once (after NEWELT).
