reftex-index-special-chars

reftex-index-special-chars is a variable defined in `reftex-vars.el'.
Its value is

("!" "|" "@" "\"" "\\")

Documentation:
Special characters in index entries. The value is a list of five strings.
These correspond to the makeindex keywords LEVEL ENCAP ACTUAL QUOTE ESCAPE.

You can customize this variable.
