mail-abbrevs-only is a variable defined in `mailabbrev.el'.
Its value is

nil

Documentation:
Non-nil means only mail abbrevs should expand automatically.
Other abbrevs expand only when you explicitly use `expand-abbrev'.

You can customize this variable.
